Crown Research Institute Scion has announced a before-tax profit of $3.240 million for the year ending 30 June 2010. After allowance is made for changes in tax rules relating to building depreciation, this converts to a net loss of $0.978 million.

Scion's new Statement of Core Purpose was issued today by science minister Wayne Mapp. It states that Scion’s purpose is to drive innovation and growth from New Zealand’s forestry, wood product and wood-derived materials and other biomaterial sectors, to create economic value and contribute to beneficial environmental and social outcomes for New Zealand.

In its latest Sustainable Forestry Bulletin, MAF has launched an on-line mapping tool for forest owners when making allocation applications for pre-1990 forests. The tool is based on the version available for exemptions and post-1989 applications.
