Napier firefighters last night battled a fire at Pan Pac Forest Products paper mill for almost four hours. The fire started in a drier at around 9.10 pm. Pan Pac Forest Products Ltd is on State Highway 220 kilometres north of Napier. Senior station officer Mark McGill said crews from six fire trucks worked until around 1am battling the blaze."It was a long and tiring job because the wood pulp had caught on fire and we had to work to clear it all out."
The mill was not seriously damaged in the fire, but it may take some time to get it operational again, McGill said.
