Twenty-one of the 23 forestry sites shut down earlier this year for unsafe practices have since picked up their game. Only two have failed to do the work required by WorkSafe New Zealand before they can resume operations.
Following the inspection of 200 cable hauling operations, the sites had been shut down for posing imminent danger to its workers.
Information released by WorkSafe New Zealand to Newstalk ZB show that 23 sites out of 200 sites inspected had numerous safety issues. These included failing to provide a safe retreat plan and inadequate plans to manage the risk of workers being crushed.
The industry's been under serious scrutiny following the death of ten forestry workers in 2013. A coronial inquest into a number of these deaths begins next month.
