Nelson detectives are investigating fires in commercial forestry south of Tapawera, near Nelson.

A blaze at the back of Tui on Hodgkinsons Rd was discovered on 6 April and was attended by the Tapawera fire brigade. Helicopters helped extinguish it by 3.30pm the same day.

It is one of several suspected arsons in the Tapawera area in the last two months.

Fire lookout attendant Mike Oliver said yesterday's blaze was in a forest owned by Nelson Forest and a fire investigator was assessing the site today.

Police are interested in hearing from the public about anyone acting suspiciously in Tapawera, Tui, Sherry River or surrounding areas from February this year.
