Forest industry performs at safety awards

A Tokoroa-based logging company has won a national health & safety award in recognition for its safe workplace practices. The FOA Health & Safety committee was a finalist in a related award.

The safe workplace award, which is open to small businesses from every industry throughout the country, was accepted by Paul Olsen and Rona Wheeldon on behalf of both PJ & MJ Olsen Ltd and Skyline Harvesting Ltd.

The award is a big win for forestry and speaks highly of the industry initiatives put in place by a committed team of people in these companies.

Other forest industry finalists on the night were:

  • Winstone Pulp International, in Tangiwai, represented by Paul Squires was a finalist in the Safeguards Award Category for the Best Significant Health and Safety Initiative by a large organisation
  • The NZ Forest Owners Association Health & Safety Committee in the Safeguards ACC Award Category for the Best Leadership of an Industry Sector.
